Student Center Operations and Maintenance, Scheduling and Audio/Visual Green Initiatives

2009/2010

  • Hosted first Campus Sustainability Day Green Fair
  • Hosted second annual Earth Day Green Fair
  • Recycled all replaced dampers in facility (~1.5 tons of material diverted from landfill)
  • Recycling bins throughout facility
  • Providing green meeting tips to clients
  • Conducted a lighting audit of facility
  • Planning to retrofit the lighting in the loading dock area for energy efficiency and safety
  • Applying for Act On Energy Incentives with lighting and air handling retrofits
  • Purchased Bulb Eater to recycling light bulbs
  • Annual reduction in utility costs by 6% as of February 2010 (water, natural gas, electricity, steam, and chilled water)
  • Annual reduction in refuse by 1.9 tons as of February 2010
  • Placing recycling containers at outside locations
  • Utilizing rechargeable batteries

  • Recycle coffee grounds with campus worm farm
  • Recycled paper purchased for copiers and printers
  • Retrofitting all conventional fluorescent ballasts to new electronic ballasts, pulling 30 – 40% less power
  • Changed out all exit signs with Light Emitting Diodes (LED)
  • Retrofitting all conventional motor starts with new soft-start technology, creating less power utilized at start-up
  • Retrofitting all down lights (150 watts) with Compact fluorescent lights (52 watts)
  • Implemented and continue to upgrade Honeywell Delta 21 System to automate start/stop of chilled water and air handling units
  • Retrofitting and replacing air handling units and associate parts to be more efficient
  • Upgraded fire extinguishers to be environmentally friendly
  • Placed motion sensors in ballrooms to turn lights off when areas not in use
  • Placing motion sensors in bathrooms to turn lights off when are not in use
  • Stepped down all fluorescent lamps from 40 watt to 34 watt
  • Installed new window film on outside windows
  • Purchasing and utilizing environmentally friendly light bulbs
  • Moved away from hand towels to dryers in the restrooms, dryers changed from 20 watt to 8 watt
  • Utilizing digital movies, which pull less power to show
  • Installing energy star coolers in kitchen areas
  • Compliant with all green chemicals possible in custodial operations
