
Open Studio Time: Monday and Friday 10:00 am - 8:45 pm, unless occupied by a scheduled workshop or group activity.
Toss your troubles aside by "throwing" some clay in the Ceramics Studio. The Ceramics Studio features:
- 9 wheels: 1 kick wheel, 6 Shimpo electric wheels, 1 Brent rehabilitation wheel (wheelchair accessible) and 1 Brent electric wheel.
- 2 electric oxidation kilns
- Stoneware and porcelain clays, slips and glazes
- An extruder
- A grinding wheel
- An extensive library of slip cast molds.
- All the tools you will need (must have ID to check out)
All you have to do is provide the inspiration and motivation. The Ceramics Studio provides a great atmosphere for kids, teens, parents, and adults to join in activities and have some fun together. The studio is set up in a "self-help" environment. Though, ceramic workshops and private lessons are offered throughout the year.
- Clay must be purchased in the Craft Shop.
- Prices are:
2.5 lbs. for $3.50 and
10 lbs. for $10.00

Chris Scamehorn, Ceramic Studio Graduate Assistant
Chris is a second-year graduate student studying ceramics here at SIUC and our Ceramic Studio Manager and Specialist. He teaches several instructional courses at the Craft Shop including Raku, Dig Your Own Clay, Wheel-throwing, Basic-Advanced Ceramics, and many others. Private lessons are available at request @ $12.00 per half-hour.
