The SIUC Student Center Craft Shop is currently offering a workshop featuring a dig of some of the best earthenware clay found right here in Southern Illinois.

Learn how to process, form, and fire the clay along with a brief history of the area clay works. Participants will be digging a limited amount of clay from the Kaolin Pit on a permit issued by the Shawnee National Forest Service. This is the same site used by the famous Kirkpatrick Brothers who made pottery in Anna, Illinois from 1859 to 1896.
